What is Blog Action Day?
Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.
This year the theme is Climate Change. Previous themes have included the environment and poverty.
We obviously like things tinged with a little “green” here at Lime Lane. But we also like to think we do our bit for the environment. And it really is only a bit.
- We recycle everything we can
- We refuse plastic bags (most of the time)
- We downsized our V6s
- We use energy saver light bulbs
- We installed a greywater system off our laundry and have a rainwater tank.
- We shop at the farmer’s market (which is fortnightly) and just planted our own (albeit very small) vegetable garden.
- We are in the process of getting chooks for the back yard. First, because you can’t beat the taste of fresh, free range eggs, and second, because they will eat the scraps. Less waste.
It’s not much but it’s a start. And hopefully at the same time we are raising two boys who will grow up to be environmentally aware.
The beauty of the internet is, there are solutions and ideas at your fingertips. So there is lots more we can do. And now is the time to do it.
- National Water Week is from October 18 to 24
- National Recycling Week is from November 9 to 15
- The 1 million women campaign aims to inspire Australian women to take action on climate change.
