{snapshots} looking to the skies

hello lunar

It’s fair to say I’m a little obsessed with the whole night time thing, which poses a problem when I actually work at night.

moon and stars

But next week I’m on holidays and I’m hoping this glorious weather and clear nights continue so I can leave the backyard and try out this whole star trails thing away from the city lights. That bright spot is actually the moon. I was interested to see how much light it would cast on the photo.

Already though, I’m seeing an improvement from last week’s photos. This one, I’ve actually managed to capture some of the rotation ~ it’s all got to do with where you point your camera {my iPhone compass is finally coming in handy ~ thanks Apple!}

hello spring

In other news, we spotted a blackbird making a nest in our lily pillies in the backyard. The other week the nest was empty. Over the weekend the Mr came in and held his phone up to show a photo of three pretty blue eggs now in the nest. Cue me later hopping up on the ladder to see I could snap a shot. The nest is in the middle of the tree, and in a raised bed, so it was a little awkward, particularly as I’m not overly fond of heights, either. So a few quick shots and that was it. In the meantime, we are keeping a close eye on our little family and making sure we don’t upset Mama bird. We’ve also moved the smalls’ basketball ring away from the area, for obvious reasons.

In the meantime, I think I will try and remember to get my camera out in the day time, too!

Yes, I got my camera out this week. Many times. Go me. At home, on a walk, for an afternoon...
