This year flickr celebrates the 5th year anniversary of The Commons and this is one of the many photos submitted for the anniversary as being among the most popular.
This photo, taken in 1930 at Circular Quay in Sydney, is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships.
The museum used the collective power of flickr to discover the identity of the woman in the photo. They now know it is Miss Hera Roberts posing on the deck of the Dutch ship HNLMS JAVA.
