[sponsored] how many jelly beans fit in a dishdrawer?

Sponsored by Fisher & Paykel

You all know I’m a bit of a space geek. As in outer space. (Although also sucker for a decent-sized linen cupboard but that’s another story.)

Which is why this article stuck in mind recently: Australian scientists are in the midst of chasing the impossible dream.

They are aiming to find out how big the universe is, or more precisely how many electrons are there in the universe.

Fascinating stuff.

Now my brain doesn’t quite comprehend the outer reaches of the galaxy and my interests lie a little closer to home.

Now, it might not save the world but it’s important. I thought I’d figure out how big a Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer was. In real terms. Chocolate*.

And if you went for the tall or the wide version, imagine how many Tim Tams your could hide in that!

* I’m a writer not a mathematician, there’s a reason for that.

* And, don’t fill your dishwasher with chocolate, cause then where would you hide your dirty dishes!

Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone ~ G.B. Stern

This quote came in my Quarterly mailing from swiss miss a little while ago and, after finally getting the wall organiser that was part of the parcel up on the wall, I re-read Tina’s letter which included this quote.

Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone ~ G.B. Stern

And, as these things usually are, it was all in the timing as I had been thinking a lot about gratitude lately.

Not just about saying thank you but about being grateful.

And being ungrateful.

There are certainly times I’m ungrateful: I had a mini-meltdown last week in the most, unreasonable, irrational way. It’s wasn’t pretty. I’m not proud of it.

Perspective is a beautiful thing.

You have certainly heard the phrase “first world problems”. And while some dislike the term, I like it has a reminder to pull up the selfish train and take a good, hard look at myself.

And that brings me back to being grateful.

  • I’m grateful for our very average, ordinary life.
  • I’m grateful for our health, the roof over our head.
  • I’m grateful that hoons and not machine guns are the only thing that disrupts our  neighbourhood.
  • I’m grateful for the sun shining today.

Danielle LaPorte often includes a tweet during the day about the things she is grateful for ~ from the big to the small.

I think that is such a lovely idea, a small reminder each day of the things that made the day easier or better. Throwing out there in the wind like a small prayer of thankfulness.

What are you ~ big or small, extraordinary or mundane ~ grateful for today?

Out of interest: The origins of please and thank you

Coffee, there’s always coffee. And food.

I made my own homemade baked beans this week as I was hankering for a beans fix. I had some recipes to guide me and made it up a little as I went along to suit what I had but they turned out great and have been a hit with the Mr and I.

Plus the odd pelican ~ I’ve never seen one in this particular lagoon, lots of ducks but nary a penguin. He was a little shy and paddled away when we approached.

And another thing: I don’t know how I ever got out of kindergarten as I’m quite challenged at sharpening a pencil. Too much typing?
