plant a seed // hydrate it

plant a seed // drink more water

This week’s challenge is a simple one but it’s something I noticed I’ve been slipping on.

Drink more water.

Now I’m working days, I should be better at drinking more water throughout the day, not just during an eight-hour shift at night, which is what I used to do.

I have a drink bottle on my desk, and I do drink throughout the day, but it’s a bit hit and miss.

So this week I’m aiming to get through that two litres of water barrier every day. Especially with another heatwave predicted this week!

I’m still getting my green on in the mornings with my smoothies, too, so that habit is still going.

And, as a reminder, five good reasons to drink more water.

  1. Increases Energy & Relieves Fatigue
  2. Promotes Weight Loss
  3.  Flushes Out Toxins
  4.  Improves Skin Complexion
  5.  Natural Headache Remedy

And if you’re having trouble remembering how much you drunk, grab this cute printable from  Wild Olive

How about you? Do you drink enough water throughout the day?

Smoothie round-up

Normally I would start a new “plant a seed” challenge today but I’m taking it easy today, a public holiday here and after years in the media, relishing the idea of actually having public holidays off!

So first I’m going to round up the week that was, the smoothie challenge.

I made it right through the week having a smoothie every morning. I need to do some groceries so I can get going again this week as I’ve run out of some key ingredients but it was a great learning experience.

I know:

  • I can throw together a combination of things to get a good result.  Don’t be afraid of this.
  • That I need to run the blender that little bit longer to make sure everything gets nicely chopped up.
  • That it really doesn’t take that longer and a little preparation goes a long way.
  • Try and have some green leafy things ~ baby spinach or kale ~ and some green apples to start and add from there. Half a grapefruit is also a good addition.
  • And straws make everything more fun.

I think my favourite combo of the week would have to be coconut water, half a green apple, half a grapefruit and some kale. I always throw in a teaspoon of chia seeds, too. Also sneaked some in the smalls’ berry smoothie this week!

I’ve also just downloaded this at fat mum slim’s for some more ideas. Thanks to Chantelle and Lisa for putting it together and offering it for free. Perfect timing!

And how do I feel. Infinitely better. And it’s great to know you’ve started the day with a dose of fruit and vegetables.

sunday read // the art of presence

But suffering is a teacher. And, among other things, the Woodiwisses drew a few lessons, which at least apply to their own experience, about how those of us outside the zone of trauma might better communicate with those inside the zone. There are no uniformly right responses, but their collective wisdom, some of it contained in Catherine’s Sojourners piece, is quite useful.

David Brooks writes on grief and presence in a piece inspired by the Woodiwiss family.
