snapshots // the past week

Snapshots // a lovely week

It’s been a lovely few days and it feels right to document them properly. Savouring them, if you will.

It was the Mr’s and I anniversary ~ there was flowers, awwww, and a lovely dinner out. This restaurant is in an old railway station and is just divine ~ food and decor.

A little perk of the job during the week was tasting some smoked trout by a local master smoker. Delicious.

The beautiful food continued through the weekend ~ with the Mr making a delicious hot smoked salmon and cous cous salad, [recipe in the latest Taste magazine].

The Mr was a on a roll, whipping up a Jamie Oliver version of paella with some added capsicums and fresh tomato.

And then the Mr and I made ourselves a platter or smoked trout and fresh bread for Sunday lunch while the boys were off at friends’ houses.

Lots of farmers market buys popping up on the menu. We’re lucky to have a range of local and lovely producers who attend the markets with their wares.

And we finished the weekend heading down to the river to the community wood-fired oven with our pizzas, getting them cooked and sitting among dozens of others doing a similar thing. An initiative of the council, the oven is open for baking usually every second Sunday and is free!

Documenting some lovely moments that were a little out of the ordinary.

groove pulp // coffee shop productivity … at home

coffee shop productivity

You know that feeling when you are at a coffee shop and you seem to get so much more done, you’re inspired, things are rolling off your fingers.

It’s hard to recreate that at home.

But this playlist I found on Spotify helps to do the trick. It’s long and eclectic so grab your favourite beverage and hit play.

Add to the ambience with Coffitivity. They share research that shows it’s  hard to be creative in a quiet space but, the mix of calm and commotion in an environment like a coffee house is proven to be just what you need to get those creative juices flowing.

This post goes into detail about how to optimise your environment for creativity, including temperature, noise and lighting.

Here’s how it works: moderate noise levels increase processing difficulty which promotes abstract processing, leading to higher creativity. Or, in other words, when we struggle just enough to process things as we normally would, we resort to more creative approaches.

Stream one from your device and one from your computer to create a true coffee house ambience!

Happy creating!

plant a seed // everyday moments

plant a seed // moments

Simple pleasures. Little things. Precious times.

This week the idea is to revel in an everyday moment. Don’t brush it off, don’t rush through it.

Take a moment, enjoy a moment.

It sounds simple enough but often do we stop to extract every ounce out of a child’s hug, a warming smile, the flutter of a butterfly.

Moments are fleeting but same are worth savouring. I have a whole Pinterest board of moments, snapshots of loveliness in time. It’s good inspiration for those moments that are worth slowing down for.

In a serendipitous moment, while I was writing this post I got an email titled “Never forget those small moments”.

It was from Shuttercal, which is a digital photo journal to remember a period in your life. There’s even an option to get digital prints every month. Check out Shuttercal here.

I would love to hear a favourite moment of yours. Feel free to share!
