lime light: simply cute by karin

On Pinterest one evening I spotted a cute little image, a “made me smile”. Pin.

Then I saw another one and realised these little beauties weren’t one offs.

Which is how I arrived at the Etsy shop of Simply Cute by Karin.

Here I have highlighted the funny girl series, they make me chuckle and I love the colourful, simple illustrations.

But Karin has a range of other lovelies, like this Girl and Yellow Lab card.

Check out her etsy shop for the full range.

lime light: using found objects

I spotted a quirky little guy on the Etsy front page a while back and was instantly taken in by him and his mates. I had created a draft post on them which was one of the items I lost in the great crash of 2011 a few weeks ago. Sadly, it also meant I lost the name of the shop and the link.

This week, I went looking for it again {and finally found it thanks to my Firefox history!} but I also stumbled across another great shop in my search.

I haven’t done a lime light in a while so today I bring you two shops that use recycled and found objects to make all sorts of creative critters.

The first is Practical Creativity. Ken Judd lives in Seattle with his wife and young son. He has a history as a craftsman and maker. Check out his profile to find out how the Robot Pioneers were born ~ it’s a great story.

The second is Heavy Metal Milkman, isn’t that a great name. Steven, from Tennessee is a single dad and the impetus of losing a job saw him turn to his talents to make a living. I love the animals with the viewfinder eyes and the fondue pot head robots.

These shops are both fairly new to Etsy so make sure you pop over and give them a heart.

lime light: a retrospective of sorts

Thank you to all those who have helped out with the survey so far. You can read more about the reasons behind it here {nothing drastic, just a few changes}.

One interesting thing so far has been Lime Light has been one of the least popular features. So it is going on holiday a week early. But, I don’t think it should disappear completely, showcasing independent designers is one of the great roles of blogs. Instead, it will pop up when someone fantabulous comes along that is too great not to share.

So instead today, a little retrospective of some recent features. You can see them all here.

lime light: auction sampler

I thought today I would give you a little sampler of some of the great items that are part of the Creative Collection Charity auction which is now under way, in case you hadn’t clicked over to find out for yourself, and to give a shout-out to some of the people who have donated items to the auction. Bidding has started and items are attracting quite a few bids. Click over here to find out more.

lime light: FIGG and honey

Today I happy to share with you another great Australian handmade creative that I found on madeit. And another shop to put on my Christmas gift list. Talia from FIGG and honey makes the most amazing soaps, as shown above, but also has a range of tasty lip balms as well as some balms for baby’s bottom.

I love these soaps though, they would make perfect gifts and stocking stuffers when thinking about Christmas, they are so bright and colourful, they really do look good enough to eat! But as Talia says, better not to.

My name is Talia and I am a mum of 2 cheeky little boys and also the woman behind ‘FIGG and honey’. I love to create all types of things but when my youngest started getting bad nappy rash and skin allergies I started making my own organic bottom (and body) balms for him and thats where FIGG and honey grew from. My son never has nappy rash anymore and its a wonderful feeling to know everything in my products are natural and good for him! I love to create for my family and for others and when I am not creating I feel lost. I am also loving making cute fun soaps at the moment. Just have to make sure no one tries to take a bite out of them!

Thanks Talia for sharing a little about the background behind FIGG and honey.

Stock up on these fun soaps and more over at madeit
