lime light: lettergirl

I was browsing the poppytalk handmade market when I came across lettergirl. I would so love a personalised address stamp like these, I would also love to write more letters, maybe it would inspire me to do so? It would be so fun to have one for the family and one for each of the boys to encourage them to write letters too, don’t you think?

Lettergirl is the work Gina, a designer from Minneapolis, who “loves to check her mailbox”. Her profile says she hopes “to inspire you to stay in touch the old-fashioned way”.

Her range, which is all lettered by hand, includes rubber stamps, wood handle stamps and self-inking stamps, and not only address labels but designs for weddings and book plates, too.

lime light: elle moss photography

Today I want to point you in the direction of a fabulous and inspirational photographer: Lisa Sieczka from elle moss photography.

Lisa’s shop focuses on her own conceptual self-portraits, all shot, styled and featuring her. But that’s not all. Her shop also includes a selection of pendants, she has two other shops on etsy and she is one of the driving forces behind fPoe ~ the Female Photographers of Etsy team. She puts an amazing amount of work in, in sharing and helping other photographers. Her photography has appeared in several magazines including the cover of Maeve.

And until Sunday, Lisa is having an end of summer BOGO sale on prints in her elle moss photography shop. So now’s the time to grab some art for your walls. See the details in her shop.

lime light: bluecaravan

I have another “collection” site this week in lime light, this time because I think this is such an exciting venture.

Bluecaravan is a relatively new Australian site, bringing together contemporary handmade, fair trade & ethical products in one online marketplace. The great thing is, it features so many great Australian designers and artisans, some of whom you may already be familiar with. And what a great philosophy.

Jen, from Bluecaravan, describes it thus:

Bluecaravan is an online [ethical] Design Market. We support an enormous range of handmade, sweat-free and fairtrade products that you can buy directly from the designers, artists and artisans themselves.

The good news about Bluecaravan is that style and substance are no longer distant cousins. All our sellers are handpicked, and their products design based – so you’ll be left with more than just a warm glow…

My vision for Bluecaravan is to re-package old ideas about ‘ethical products’, and respond to the problem that consumers find it difficult to ‘find’ good ethical design. Although there may always be a place for loose-fit hemp fashion, ethical shopping need to speak to a much wider audience who are keen to spend their dollars more consciously.

The bottom line? Products made by designers, artists and artisans have a quality like no other.

Our goal? To create a thriving community that supports emerging designers, and in turn supports the growth and development of ethical businesses.

Browsing the site, there are so many lovely things, it was hard to pick a selection {a cliche but true}, but I have tried to select items that show the variety available at the site. Some other designers who have already featured on the blog like ruby victoria letterpress, EcoInspired and Needle vs Thread are also at Bluecaravan.

Top row: Purple Lily Business Card Holder by Seventh Sphere; Set of four gift tags from paper tree design; Granny Smith baby shoes by pedrosprout

Bottom row: Valley tealight holders from Kanimbla Clay; Stationery set from Earth Greetings; Love bunny pendant from Honeybee

Head on over to Bluecaravan.

PS. Some late news. My apologies

The winner of the giveaway of a print from Filmless Photos was Deb from Two Cheeky Monkeys.

lime light: exhibition time

Because I like to change things up and keep you on your toes, today I have not one but two great creatives to share.

Brittini from paper n stitch emailed about some of the designers that are part of the new exhibition there this month. Her picks for what I might be interested were spot on, because one I had already featured and actually am the proud owner of some of her products.

There is a whole load of loveliness to browse over at paper n stitch, a curated space for handmade and independents artists, but today I am including just two designers ~ seaoats {top row} and mengsel {bottom row}.

Seaoats, well for starters has some stunning product photography which you should definitely check out, make lovely clutches and pencil cases. Their products are eco-friendly, made from “reclaimed fabrics and hand-printed screen prints”.

Mengsel, is the work of South African designer Luzelle van der Westhuizen who is now based in London, and isn’t this a great range ~ silk-screened pillow cases, prints, cushions and tea towels. I always find it inspiring when an artist expands over several mediums like this. Seriously crushing on the robot pillowcases.

Head over to paper n stitch for a browse, or check out the blog for updates and a selection of daily favourites.

There is a lovely giveaway for a sweet original watercolour painting over at the blog. Check it out here

{lime light is a weekly feature which showcases the work of handmade and independent artists from across the universe, it’s just about spreading the word and sharing things I like, and that I hope you like too! I’m always open to ideas. More information here}

lime light: filmless photos

First off, I have to say how clever I think this business name is! It rolls off the tongue, but makes you stop and think.

Second, Kirsty, of Filmless Photos has some of the most unique products in her store, so you must go and check it out.

Kirsty is another one of my regional neighbours and a fellow photographer, moonlighting in a day job!

I am a self taught photographer whose “happy accidents” result in my art photography.  I like to make the everyday a little quirky – hence the bright photos with the not so usual perspectives.
To fund my obsession, I work also work as an occupational therapist – photography is a pleasant, creative escape. I dream of taking my photography full time, but for now it’s  part time with with a plan

As well as a variety of prints in her shop, she also has “usable art” ~ skins for iPhones {such a great idea} and also offers product photography packages. {And her work is also available at Shop Handmade in Canberra}

Kirsty offering a fun giveaway today. The winner will be able to choose any print they want from her Etsy shop {3×3 or 2.75 x 3.75}, and she will matt and back it for you as well. If you are already a facebook “fan”, blog or twitter follower of Kirsty’s, you are already entered. Get a second entry by leaving a comment here.
