a rose-coloured process

A little photographic interlude today. Same bush, blooms in all different stages. All taken with a macro lens, late afternoon light.

action: take more photos

One of my goals for the new year was to take more photos. To help me achieve that in 2011, I’ve made a new home purely for daily photoblogging. It is called quotidien, which roughly translated means “daily”, and is where I’m going to share everyday photos, sort of in a project 365 fashion, but also inspired by the wonderful habit, with a short sentence describing that everyday moment.

Head over here to check it out and subscribe to follow along our everyday life.

a zesty trip down memory lane {your weekend zest}

So 2010 is done and dusted, so I thought for a zesty post this weekend, I would do a recap of some of the blog’s popular posts.

January

Kicked off with one of the most popular posts of all time, my Kiss Me and Carry On card download

February

I had a giveaway, with a pretty card download, to celebrate 500 posts.

March

The luck of the Irish, St Patrick’s Day freebie topped the polls.

April

One of my favourites, an interview with the talented Heather from Hang Tight Studio

May

The monthly calendars started gaining popularity, like this one for May

June

… and June.

July

Voted most popular posts, Friday Freebies, like this one in July.

August

Jumping on the bunting bandwagon, this thank you card download got some link love.

September

Who doesn’t love Dr Seuss? Oh the place you’ll go also features highly in popular pulp.

October

The calendar was again popular but it was also Blogtoberfest which meant this download was also popular

November

Stepped on another piece of lego ~ it inspired this party download

December

A funny month for stats, so I picked out this post on photography and bokeh.

I wonder what 2011 will have in store.

christmas viewing: the snowman

This Christmas, I have seen several references to The Snowman ~ from the oblique {on twitter} to the upfront ~ and wondered, was this the same DVD we watched each Christmas. I must admit, I hadn’t noticed references to this particular film, or book before.

In fact it is, and I’m ashamed to say I was completely oblivious to its classic and iconic place in British festive history.

The Snowman is a children’s book by Raymond Briggs, adapted into a short, animated film {both are wordless} and first shown on TV on Christmas Eve in 1982. It was even nominated for an Oscar.

We have the DVD in a set of  three Christmas DVDs given to us one Christmas. Honestly, I thought it was probably from one of the bargain pick-ups you find in a bin near the door. Although we loved it, particularly The Snowman and particularly, for me, the scene above which features the song Walking on the Air. Beautiful song, beautiful film, beautiful illustration.

You can read more about The Snowman here and watch it on You Tube in Part I and Part II.
