seeds // swissmiss’ 11 values to live by

I think if I could pick one conference in the world to go to, it might be SXSW. The news and talks coming out of there this week have been nothing short of amazing.

I’m not one to really listen/watch videos on the web but in the past fornight I’ve watched two lengthy talks out of SXSW, that’s probably twice the amount I watched all of last year.

So last week it was Dave Grohl, this week it is Tina Roth Eisenberg, aka swiss miss.

If you love design, enterpreneurial inspiration, creativity and small business, I think you will get a lot out of Tina’s talk.

These are the 11 rules and values Tina shares in her talk ~ although you need to watch to garner the full understanding of them ~ and she also added a 12th in the Q&A after, in that it was important to also have a supportive partner!

the five // pick up a pen and write

the five // for national handwriting day

Handwriting allows us to be artists and individuals … Handwriting can add intimacy to a letter and reveal details about the writer’s personality. ~ WIMA

Did you know today is National Handwriting Day? I do now thanks to kikki k.

So today’s the day to sit down with a pen and paper, a card or a notebook and write. Here’s five links of ideas and inspiration:

  1. Write, scribble or draw in a journal.
  2. Write a list
  3. Get fancy and take up calligraphy
  4. Write a letter with an update of the old-fashioned aerogram from Just Something I Made
  5. Remember your manners ~ etiquette for letters and thank-you notes from Emily Post

What will you write today?

{seeds} you know what they say about the best laid plans …

I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be. – Douglas Adams

I thought I started the week so well. I wrote myself a list yesterday, put plans and ideas for the week on the calendar.

Already things are going off course. Changes. New plans.

But that’s OK. I’ll end up where I need to be.

This week:

  1. Lists, lists and more lists: Christmas gift lists, packing lists, to do lists, reminder lists. I need them all at the moment. I’m using the Reminders app on my iPhone this week as it can remind me by time, date or location as well as just being a to list I can check off. Plus, it tells me how many things I’ve completed on my list while leaving the few things still to do. I love that sense of achievement!
  2. Order online now: For a lot of sites, this week is the last chance to guarantee Christmas delivery. So I’m putting aside the procrastination and getting in and getting stuff ordered, rather than leaving it too late.
  3. Work ahead: I’m an absolute deadline pusher. So I need to change my thinking and start doing things ahead of time. Even if it’s just a little bit here and there.
  4. Stop procrastinating: Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today! See point above.
  5. And finally, be audacious. I love this.

How’s  your week looking?
