a good night’s sleep + giveaway

This will seem a little out of character for this space but I have to give you some background. See, I have a hot husband.

OK, so in truth, while he does have something Clooney-esque about his looks [he’s going to kill me!], he also runs at a temperature a little warmer than me.

And this invariably means me under the doona in the middle of summer after he’s turned the air-conditioning back on.

Did I mention I was also in my winter PJs?

This is why when Lorraine Lea offered to send me one of their gel pillow pads to try, I hastily accepted. For him, not me.

It was the perfect item for him to try out and arrived with great timing smack bang after a few sleepless nights.

Nothing like putting it to the test.

And even my sometimes cynical friend had to admit it appeared to help after the first refreshing night’s sleep that week.

It’s really quite ingenious and simple. The gel pillow pad just slips inside your pillow slip with your pillow. It also comes in a mattress mat.

Made with anti-bacterial, non-toxic medical silica gel which is 85 per cent water to absorb the body’s heat, the gel pads are designed to give relief to fever, hot flushes or hot sleepers, or “hot husbands”.

So they are really quite useful to have on hand.

And while the Mr is enjoying the relief during the summer nights, I’m thinking it might come in handy for moi when those hot flushes start [I’m not getting any younger you know!]

So this is all about a good night’s sleep. How to ensure a good night’s sleep and why you should make sure you get one.

crush // Logitech Case+ plus UE Mini Boom speaker giveaway

This is a sponsored post.

[The giveaway is now closed]

I love a new gadget  and anything that makes my life run that little bit smoother is a big plus [see what I did there!].

Logitech sent me three products from their new Case+ range for the iPhone 5 range. Three very useful products and came at a great time for us.

And quite frankly, as we can find a use for all three, it’s hard to pick a fave.

  • Case + Drive: This magnetic car mount allows you to safely mount your phone while driving. The magnetic mount means you just snap on your phone very easily and there’s no fussing about with getting it into a cradle. It also comes with a small metal stick on piece that allows you to mount any phone on the mount – not just an iPhone
  • Case + Energy: This is a case with useful battery pack that doubles the power of your phone. It charges via USB.
  • Case + Tilt: This magnetic backing attaches to the case and once folded acts as a stand for your iPhone. It can also corral your earbuds in a cone.

Now the Case+Drive was invaluable to the Mr when he went off road tripping with the youngest for football. It allowed him to easily follow the GPS to the ground and out again while allowing room for him to keep it charged via our existing charger. He’s already talking of getting another for his car.

The Case + Energy has been great for me when I’ve been using my phone all day and not near a charger. When I’m getting into the danger zone I pop it on and I’m right. I’m off to a conference this week and I think it will be great during the day when I’m caught up in workshops and sessions all day and the charge is getting dangerously low. It attracts a lot of envious stare from gadget lovers in similar predicaments, too!

Case + Tilt is so easy to use. Similar to the smart cases for the iPad [which I can never seem to get right], the Tilt is great for keeping your iPhone in a handy spot while working and you want to keep an eye on what pops up without picking it up all the time. The smalls love it, too, for watching and playing together when we are out or even at home.

The great thing is the cases that comes with the products are tough and streamlined, simple and able to be used with the different accessories, which means I can leave one in the car for when I want to use it with the Drive mount, and have one handy for inside. Or the Mr and I can each have one to use when we need it.

The battery pack case is nice and simple, too. There’s a lot to be said for good design. All cases slip easy into pockets of jeans and bags while keeping the phone protected. You can use the magnetic cases for any magnetic surface like whiteboards and fridges. How handy! And all the cases and extras are easy to get one and off your devices. The sturdy cases comes in two colourways and the products come in selected colours.

Now I was worried about magnets and gadgets but Logitech covers that in their FAQs, saying the iPhones’ flash memory which are unaffected by magnetic fields. Good to know!

A fave? The Mr would pick the Drive mount as his favourite product. He loves having his phone within easy reach. Me, I think the Case + Energy is my pick, it settles my fear of running out of battery right at a crucial moment.

Now it’s your turn! Tell me your favourite Logitech product for a chance to win  a UE Mini Boom bluetooth wireless speaker, valued at $99. The eldest recently got one and loves it. We might have even “borrowed” it a couple of times for our own use. It’s portable, easy to use and has great sound.

Just leave a comment below with your favourite Logitech product.

This giveaway is only open to Australian residents [sorry far-flung fans] and closes for entries on Friday, February 28 at 6pm. The winner will be contacted via email the following weekend. If the winner does not reply to my email within 24 hours, another winner will be chosen. Entries will be judged on merit and decision of the winner will be final.

Logitech LogoLogitech have just launched a new product range. The product is a new case system for iPhones which is called Case+. The case is a smart sturdy case for iPhone 5/5S with a metal backing that provides protection. Logitech Case+ comes with a variety of accessories to add on to the case. 100 years of Sharp and what you can learn from its longevity

[This is a sponsored post]

I’m often amazed at how far technology has come in such a short space of time.

Take a look at your family. I was fortunate to know all my grandparents and we still have four generations of our family alive. And the changes from when my grandmother was raising five children, to how I live my life now, as a mother, are nothing short of remarkable.

I have a washing machine that I can set and forget, a microwave to defrost or quickly cook food, television and DVDs to keep me entertained, not to mention computers, the internet and an array of i-Devices.

All that in just a few generations.

And so it was with some surprise I discovered that Sharp, the electronics company, was celebrating its centenary this year.

100 years.

They are older than my grandmother.

Now, living out the back of beyond, I’m fairly sure my grandmother didn’t see a Sharp product until perhaps I was a baby and they splashed out on their first colour television set.

But they were certainly a part of my childhood.

I remember the old TV with the wood veneer back with the solid Sharp logo centred underneath the screen.

I remember the fancy microwave the Mr bought to our relationship years ago, it was both a microwave and a conventional oven, and it last well over a decade, replaced with a smaller, slicker version in a kitchen update, and given away, still in working condition, to a friend whose microwave had packed it in (obviously wasn’t a Sharp).

I remember, as does the Mr, our Sharp calculators, the smart scientific versions with the orange buttons that we used to struggle through trigonometry, a staple in every student’s backpack.

Five fast facts about Sharp:
  • Sharp was indeed founded in 1912, in September, by Tokuji Hayakawa, and started as metal workshop in Tokyo.
  • Its name comes one its first inventions ~ the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil from 1915.
  • In the 1920s, it started producing the first Japanese radio sets. It had relocated to Osaka after the 1923 earthquake.
  • In 1953, it started producing televisions.
  • And that calculator’s beginnings were in 1964, when it  produced the world’s first transistor calculator, which cost a whopping $US1400.
Five things creatives can learn from Sharp:
  • You’ve got to start somewhere: It’s hard to believe this multinational electrical company started with a pencil. Not just any pencil, but a pencil nonetheless.
  • Don’t give up: The earthquake destroyed the pencil business, so the company moved on and into radio technology. As one door closes, another opens. Things might have been different is this opportunity and not presented itself.
  • Innovate, innovate, innovate: Did you know Sharp created the first camera phone in 1997, releasing a version to the Japanese market in 2000. Technology that has certainly come along way since the 256-bit technology.
  •  Get your name out there: Sharp was the principal sponsor of the Manchester United football team, one of the best and well-known in the world, for 17 years. Despite their longevity and reach around the world, they still saw the value in getting their brand front and centre.
  • Something for everyone: Out and about, spot the Sharp product. As well as coming into your home with TVs and kitchen appliances, Sharp also have a large business range including cash registers and multi-function devices, and also have a large solar division.

sharp 100 years

To celebrate 100 years, Sharp has a 100 days campaign leading up to the anniversary on September 15 as it also looks forward to the next 100 years. As part of the Sharp will make a contribution for every purchase of AQUOS TV and Plasmacluster air purifier during the campaign. The proceeds will go to the support of health programs such as vaccinations.

And it is also asking you to be a part of the Sharp 100 Years celebrations by sharing your anniversary moments.

The images and videos will be made into a  film and displayed through the website during the campaign period. Enter here. This competition is open until September 15  to residents of Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates.
