tuning in {inspiration by the senses}

{on my wall today ~ details below}

I’m revisiting an idea as I regroup after a busy few days with the launch of a new layout here, as well as over here. You know that feeling when you cross off several major items on your to do list, the deadlines are met and it is almost a feeling of free time {but not quite}. So I am re-writing the to do list, reprioritising and making sure I’m ready when for the next inspiration wave.

hearing

Silence {which funnily enough was what I was hearing last time}. The small ones going back to school this week meant I haven’t been barraged by the sounds of  TV, computer games and incessant interruptions. It wasn’t deliberate, it just never occurred to me to turn on the music, and when it did, I realised I appreciated the silence. I still am.

touching

Keys. On a keyboard. Tap, tap, tappity tap. Realising it might be time to change that to a shutter button ~ click, click, clickity click!

smelling

Rain. A slight cool change has brought intermittent showers. And raging humidity. But it’s better than nothing.

seeing

Devastation and heartbreak. Queensland is to be hit by the biggest storm in living memory. Right after devastating floods. It’s hard not to spend part of day thinking about our countrymen and what they are going through ~ and about to face. A land of extremes.

tasting

Water. Good old H2O. I have armed myself with a water bottle and trying to remember to drink more water. Which reminds me, I have to go and fill it up.

on my wall today

Lime paint chips for no other reason than they are lime;  yummy photo in frame by Miss Giny for the Winter Photo Swap; letters and paper supplies; an interesting feather; one of my Diana pictures to remind me to practice; the Kiss Me and Carry On print  {a newsletter subscriber exclusive}.

Feel free to share what’s tickling your senses today in the comments or leave us a link. I always thing inspiration shared, is inspiration gained.

on appreciation {#reverb10}

Appreciate. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?

You know sometimes you have to remind yourself to say thank you. That’s what I’ve discovered about my self lately. It’s easy to take things, and people, for granted. I think it is important to say to that person who has done something nice for  you ~ your partner, your friend, a parent, a child, the person who moved aside for you in the street, the person who let who in with your one item in the checkout queue ~ thank you, and say it like you meant it and are grateful for that small measure of kindess.

Taking some liberties, these are the things I have appreciated this year:

  • The support of a fantastic husband
  • Funny and understanding children {“Is that for your website?”}
  • Time to do the things I want to do
  • Good health to do the things we want to do
  • Support from my community

And I hope to all and everything, I have at least expressed my gratitude in some form.

Thank you.

on catching up {#reverb10}

{working on 2010 resolutions, which I never "finished", and that probably says a lot about my year}

I have some catching up to do for reverb10. One thing I would like to achieve this month is to catch up properly before it is over and be on time. One thing I am learning, and I have known for some time, is that I really need to work on my organisation, as in the organisation of my life. It’s funny, because people think I am really organised, apparently I give that impression, even my father thinks that. Usually it is just more working well to a deadline {as in working right up to that moment} and thinking quickly on my feet. Organised chaos rather than organised per se.

So, the last few prompts in summary:

  • #8 Beautifully different: This is a hard one for me, because self-introspection is not really my thing. I don’t like talking about myself. And quite frankly, I could think of a lot of flaws before I think about the nice things. I guess that says something right there!
  • #9 Party: A friend’s wedding. Not only was it a lovely day, but it was wonderful to see and share in a day that was filled with love and emotion. It was very special and those are the moments that stand out from that occasion.
  • #10 Wisdom: The wisest decision this year. Sometimes it is so hard to pinpoint just one thing. This wasn’t just one time but I know there were several occasions where I held my tongue, didn’t lash out, didn’t get angry about something that was on the trivial side, and everything worked out better for it. I remember at the time, and in hindsight, what a good decision that was.
  • #11 11 things:  Elimination and change. And I love a good list. This really needs its own post. But I like to think of this as a kickstart for some 2011 resolutions so in quick form, 11 words that symbolise areas of my life I need to work on: organisation, diet, exercise, parenting, engaging, creating, pressure, posture, clutter, action, planning.
  • #12 Body integration: Mind, body and soul as one. Hmmm, this is another hard one. It’s not an exact moment, but it’s those times when I’m with my little family, and we are one, and we are laughing or enjoying the exact same thing at the exact same time and I think to myself, this is a perfect moment. They usually come at inane times, like doing the dishes, around the dinner table, or at the supermarket. They are the moments with which I want to fill my life with. They are the moments when I think “this is right”.
  • #13 Action: Don’t you love the word action. It has such get up and go just by the sound of it. My next step: {it’s that word again} organisation. Clean, declutter, organise, plan. Set myself up properly for 2011. From there, I can consider and take the next steps.

This is certainly not the best way to do this, but my compulsive  tendencies need me to be caught up to move on. And the prompts that really resonate with me I’m sure I will cover again during the month or while putting down some New Year’s resolutions. I know some people think they are cheesy, but I love the idea of putting the past year, week, month, day behind you and starting with a fresh slate.

Coming up to the halfway point, I think it has been a worthwhile exercise to focus the mind and ready for a new year and new plans. Like I said, I’m not one for self-introspection, but I am enjoying this mind decluttering.

on community {#reverb10}

Community. Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011?

This an easy one, and I know I am not the only one saying this, but I discovered community here. I started blogging because of the community I saw here. Then I created 74 Lime Lane and started my own community here.

I so enjoying meeting new and getting to know friends here. For 2011, I would like to connect more with this community. How about you?
