{my creative space} it’s going to be foto february

photo time

Let’s all sing that familiar refrain ~ where has my week gone?

It’s Thursday, the smalls have almost completed a week back at school, and I still have a to do list as long as my arm.

Never mind, because things are getting creative around here, and now that I stop and think about it, it’s also getting exciting.

For starters, my week started on Tuesday. After the epic Australian Open final {which I had to wait for as a news hound}, I decided that Tuesday would be the  new Monday.

And amazingly it was quite the productive day.

But yesterday is when things got exciting, and busy. My day was caught up tending to one of the small’s needs, which blocked out most of my day, but inbetween, some amazing things happened.

  • We launched a new month, a new theme and a new design for the Creative Collective as it celebrates its birthday this February. Do stop by and check it out.
  • I won a spot in Vivienne McMaster’s Light Hunters course thanks to tinniegirl. {thank you thank you thank you Cathy!} I’m so looking forward to seeing how this reflects in my photography and I’m already taking more notice of the way light falls.
  • And Souvenir Foto School has started so I’m deep in thought about working around a theme.

And today, well, it’s time to start taking some photos.

So it’s going to be a bit of a foto February. Be ready for a slide show.

{my creative space} photographic proof

stripes

So last week I resolved to blow the dust off my camera and get out and take some photos.

And you know what ~ I did!

So in this post is a selection of photos I’ve taken this past week. But I’m still working hard to create that habit.

wheat

Although I’m slowly pushing myself more and more. Doing a little things like walking out of the office while on a break to take photos with my iPhone, looking in my own back yard for inspiration.

orange

Along with “make it happen”  I need to remember to “try harder”. Or as Yoda would say:  ”There is no try, only do”. Or something like that.

yellow ruffles

Okay, so it might be time to step away from the flowers and take something else.

There’s always a little something different over at quotidien.

{my creative space} creating a good habit

creating a habit

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. I may have started about 10 days too late.

To be fair to myself, I’m not failing completely. But perhaps I’m not doing as well as I would like. Or as well as you might think.

So it’s confession time.

My camera gear hasn’t been out of the bag all week.

And by no strange coincidence, I returned to work this week ~ both at the paying-the-bills job and to a mountain of freelance work.

My hermit-like tendencies to stay at home all day until heading off to work are not that conducive to the whole taking lots of photos thing either.

So my camera stays in the corner.

Yeah, that’s what I think, too.

I’ll catch you later, I’m off to take some photos.

{my creative space} snap happy

The one thing I want out of 2012 is to be a more prolific and courageous photographer.

What does that mean?

I want to take more photos, more often and all the time. I resolved to take my photo gear to more places and even get my iPhone out more often to capture moments. I resolve to not worry about what people think when I stop, drop everything and take a photo.

I would go as far to say it is one of the biggest things holding me back as a photographer.

So far, I’m doing well with my goal. I’ve taken my camera everywhere we went, I’ve whipped out my iPhone without a thought, I’ve immersed myself in the taking and left the fear and the worry behind. Because of this, I found more scenes that were “Polaroid-worthy” and I’ve taken more photos, and I finally feel I have quotidien on the right track.

I’ve experimented and snapped everything from cows to the moon. {Funny juxtaposition that}. I’ve used digital, iPhone and film.

I just did it. And it feels great.

{my creative space} … gets a makeover

workspace ~ tidy desk

Well a good tidy up at least.

New year, new start and all that, yesterday I finally got to something I have been trying to get to for weeks, if not months. Giving my study, studio, office, whatever you want to call it, a good tidy.

workspace ~ details

{Desktop from Smashing Magazine, street sign a present from Hubby, easel from Studio Lakshmi}

It had been somewhat overtaken by piles of everything on the floor, on desks, on chairs, on shelves and had become somewhat a disaster zone. But it is one of those things I need the whole day to do. I can’t get stuck into if I have to go to work in the afternoon or out for dinner or anything. I dedicate myself to it.

workspace ~ inspirational clutter

{inspirational clutter}

There are still some bits and pieces to finish off, and as much as I would love a clutter-free zone, that probably isn’t going to happen this year, or perhaps this decade, let alone this week. Let it go.

But it’s tidy, I can work in it, and so can others ~ it’s a two computer zone ~ and, thanks to summer trading hours, I have a new office chair to complete the look.

workspace ~ details

{Lanterns from Spotlight on left, on right a print by Alicia Bock and a plate of letters}

I did also mange to put up some frames and prints, which had been part of the piles, and Hubby was very obliging with hooks and untangling and hanging the paper lanterns.

And now that it is all tidy, as a reward, I can put up my fairy lights.

Ready to start creating for 2012.
